Last month, we had the absolute pleasure of having Mr & Mrs R at our studio. While we adore all of our couples that we meet, we do have a special place in our hearts for our multicultural couples!
It might be cause we are biased, since some of us are also in multiculural marriages ourselves (like me!), but let me just tell you about these two and you will probably fall in love with them too!
Introducing our lovebirds
Our groom is from the US and our bride is from Japan, and when Mr Groom’s military job brought him to Okinawa, they decided to get their wedding photos & video done with us here in Yomitan Village.
They booked our Japanese-Western Package so they could experience wearing both Japanese Kimono and Western-style dress and tuxedo.
Japanese-Western Package
- 1 Bridal Kimono & 1 Haori-Hakama
- 1 Dress & 1 3-piece tuxedo
- Bridal hair & makeup + Bridal hairstyle change
- 300 photos
- Studio photoshoot + 2 Locations
Sharing cultures
Mrs Bride wanted to share her Japanese wedding culture with her new husband, and Mr Groom was so excited to learn and experience her culture as well. Even though I was there to help translate between him and our staff, he was so eager to communicate in Japanese too!
Mr Groom is wearing our Haori & Hakama (men’s formal Kimono) 01-a. The Haori (jacket) has a slight shimmer, which made Mr Groom excited when he picked it out. It really suited him!
Mrs Bride is wearing our Shiromuku 01-a. The Shiromuku is one of the most traditional styles of Japanese wedding Kimono. The white signifies purity and rebirth from a girl into a wife, and while it is typically worn in very formal Shinto shrine ceremonies, these days, taking it out for a photoshoot is really popular!
You can read more about Formal Japanese Wedding Kimonos in our post here.
Kimono Photoshoot
This is one of our staff’s favorite shots of these two ❤️ The weather was really unpredictable that day, and we found ourselves caught in not one, but two passing showers. Our photographer captured this moment of our couple dancing just as the rain started falling. We ran for cover right after!
Western-style photoshoot
After the Kimono photoshoot, it was time to get changed into a dress and tuxedo! Our bride got a hairstyle change too, from the Japanese-style chignon with orchids, to a more modern low braided ponytail with star accessories.
Our bride is wearing one of our most popular dresses – the off-white mermaid Dress 59. Our groom is wearing one of our most popular tuxedos – the dark brown Tuxedo 29.
Beach photoshoot
These two were endlessly cute. While in the morning they were slightly restricted under the many layers of their respective Kimonos, in the Western-style dress and tuxedo, they were free to move about as much as they wished!
We love seeing the variations of personalities with our clients who book us for our Japanese-Western or Dress & Kimono photoshoots! The change in outfits really brings out different sides of our couples!
Without the layers, it’s also easier to take more intimate shots. Our couple, while a little shy in front of us, loved being close to one other ❤️
Wedding video
Our couple also wanted a wedding video together with their photos, so they added on our Custom Videography add-on option for 2 locations. That way, they could have scenes from both their Kimono and Western-style outfit shoots.
After the shoot, our videographer will edit the scenes together in an Omakase (“I’ll leave it to you”) style. Check out the result below!
Thank you again for choosing us at Ryukyu Wedding. We wish you both a lifetime of happiness and joy with each other ❤️ and we also hope to see you guys again in the future!
